Richard Morimoto, Ph.D., Bill and Gayle Cook Professor, Molecular Biosciences, Northwestern University, focuses on cellular quality control, or the protection of protein structure, in the roundworm, C. elegans, and in human iPS (induced pluripotent stem) cells. Morimoto studies the role of “chaperone” proteins, which prevent the formation of misfolded and aggregation-prone proteins that have been linked to age-related neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
