The very definition of the word indicates that biosafety involves the containment of hazardous agents.
Consideration of containment – using multiple levels of barriers as defined by ‘Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories,’ should begin in the planning phase – especially in BSL 3 facilities where there is more of an emphasis on primary and secondary barriers.

The Sipper Sack® System is an alternative to water bottles, using a sterile, disposable, plastic bag with a reusable, autoclavable, stainless steel drinking valve to water individual cages of mice or rats. This watering system is designed for point-of-use fill. The compact filler unit performs in-room, on-demand sack filling in the change hood while each cage change is taking place – water is not transported anywhere.
