Art's-Way planning new, expanded facility following fire
Less than three months after losing several laboratories in a fire that completely destroyed a building at its Monona, Iowa site, Art's-Way Manufacturing Co. is planning a brand new, larger facility, company officials say.

On January 19, a massive fire destroyed a building housing offices, a production area and laboratories at Art's-Way Scientific in Monona. No one was injured and important servers and computer files were recovered undamaged. The building and most of its contents, however, were not so lucky.

Disaster Planning
There are many points to consider when developing a disaster plan for your animal facility.

If you are reading this article, it is likely that you were entrusted with the task of devising a disaster plan for your facility. I can relate, as the task to develop such a plan that worked for all of the animal care units at the University of Michigan's decentralized facilities fell to me not long ago. I was handed a large box with plans from other facilities, reference material on remediation, three ring binders from conferences on disaster planning, books, the list went on and on. Being diligent, I immediately began reviewing all of these documents, and what I found didn't really help me in creating a plan for my institution...
